English rose, a title that very aptly does justice to the effervescent beauty and talent boat floating amongst the Hollywood shores. The lesser mortals call her as Kate Winslet, the Briton actress who has shown her mettle with a bankful of performances in varied flavors for quite some time now. With her wide spread fame based on nippy roles tucked in her goody girl kitty, it is quite natural that she found her bearings very early in the life. This is her story.
Kate was born on 5 October 1975, in Reading, Berkshire, England, UK . Since early childhood she has been exposed to the nuisances and theatrics of acting with both her parents Roger Winslet and Sally Bridges-Winslet being stage actors and maternal grandparents Oliver and Linda Bridges owning the Reading Repertory Theatre. In fact her uncle, Robert Bridges, also a stage actor was a fixture in London's West End theatre district.
With the presence of such theatrical personas in the family, she too found herself being drawn into the world of make believe and doing tits and bits roles in stage productions wherever she could find work along with her 3 siblings, 2 sisters- Anna and Beth and brother Joss. This later trickled down on giving her first break in a TV commercial for sugar puffs, where she danced along with the Honey Monster. All there was happening around her finally gave her an understanding of where her true calling lies and Kate successfully convinced her parents in letting her attend the Redroofs Theatre School in Maidenhead and starred in productions such as peter pan.
Known as blubber in her schooling days, Kate soon got a brush with television when she landed roles in episodes of Shrinks and Casualty at the mere age of 13. What with the pressures of acting in sitcoms and keeping up with their demanding curriculum of Redroofs, she barely got time to complete her education in a proper manner, but still managed to graduate with 8GSCEs in 1991. That year saw Kate trying to find her footings in the entertainment world. She did a host of television series, Get Back (TV series) (1992) Anglo-Saxon Attitudes (TV) (1991) Dark Season (TV series) (1991).
